Symmetry Seven ~ Queen Michelle

Category: Symmetry SevenEyeliah @ 2:00 pm

Fashion rule breaker Queen Michelle of Kingdom of Style is a Style Icon to many if not all.  She has dark mysterious bangs, is a DJ, has a covetable Black Milk leggings collection to flatter her killer legs and a knack for layering the unexpected.  What one wouldn’t give to play around in her closet.  I’ve been reading Michelle and Marie on Kingdom of Style since I first started blogging and they are even sweet enough to put their readers including me onto their blogroll.  Enjoy Michelle’s answers to the Symmetry Seven below.

1. What would you name your personal style?
I tend to always revert back to my punk/metal roots which envariably involves PVC but I do like to try and explore lots of different looks.  But I suppose most people would consider me a rock chick though.

2. Is there anything you wouldn’t wear?
I will try most things it has to be said but I have a well documented aversion to white linen trousers!

3. Where do you get your outfit inspirations?
Music and mood mostly but graphic design, film and old photos of my mum also inspire me. Sometimes I wake up lazy and just chuck on some trashed denim shorts and a band t-shirt – nothing remotely exciting! Working from home makes me lazy too it has to be said.

4. What’s your favorite non fashion hobby?
Probably movies. Most of my spare time, in terms of hobbies, are fashion related in some respect such as sewing, and the blog takes up most of my free time, but when there is spare time I love watching movies – scary ones!

5. How much time do you spend working on your blog?
I’m probably on the computer about 9 hours a day, with about 4 of those hours blog related: researching, taking photos, making things, writing articles, answering emails, doing interviews. So at the moment it’s pretty intensive, although it might not seem like that amount of work goes into it when you look at it.

6. What songs/albums are you loving right now?
I’m really loving these albums just now:
The Kills – Midnight Boom
Arctic Monkeys – Favourite Worst Nightmare
Metallica – Master of Puppets
Danzig – 777 I Luciferi
Silverfish – Organ Fan

7. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to be a designer from as long as I remembered. I never even entertained the notion that I could be something else, I was so single minded. I wish I had thought of other careers now!

Michelle thank you so much for participating!!

Symmetry Seven ~ Audi of Fashion for Nerds

Category: Symmetry SevenEyeliah @ 9:00 am

Audi from Fashion For Nerds is more that just a stylish dresser, her blog is filled with outfit breakdowns, layering guidelines, how tos and helpful advice. She has also given us a peek into her closet including belt and shoe collections (swoon). The Fashion For Nerds blog was originally started as a way for Audi to showcase her outfits to people who will more likely appreciate them and yes we do. A practitioner of millinery she lists her one of a kind hats along with her husbands belt and harness creations at AudraJean on Etsy.
Enjoy Audi’s answers to the Symmetry Seven below.

1. What would you name your personal style?
That’s a tough one. My style has elements of mod, flapper, steampunk,
and equestrian romantic, with a lot of menswear thrown in more recently.
Whatever it is, it’s very San Francisco, I’d say.

2. Is there anything you wouldn’t wear?
I abhor anything resembling trashy clubwear, but frankly I’m open to
wearing almost anything.

3. Where do you get your outfit inspirations?
From all over, really. I’m heavily influenced by other bloggers and
people I see on the street, but I also find a lot of inspiration from
unlikely sources such as home and garden magazines. I also find that my
style tends to evolve a lot when I travel.

4. What’s your favorite non fashion hobby?
I love to do all sorts of crafty stuff such as knitting, millinery,
etc. But I’m also an avid reader and a huge ice hockey fan.

5. How much time do you spend working on your blog?
I’d say around 7-8 hours a week; the time I put into it has gone up in
recent months, and hopefully it shows!

6. What songs/albums are you loving right now?
I’m totally addicted to all varieties of latin music — Orishas, Bebe,
Nydia Rojas, and Julieta Venegas are a few I discovered recently. I don’t
really listen to the radio, so I usually discover bands or albums at
random times, sometimes months or even years after they’ve been out.

7. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A veterinarian. But being a biologist is sort of the next best thing –
I work for a company that develops drugs for cancer and other serious
diseases, so I’m helping people instead of animals.

Audi thank you so much for participating!!

Symmetry Seven ~ Diana of Hot Chocolate and Mint

Category: Symmetry SevenEyeliah @ 9:00 am

Diana of Hot Chocolate and Mint is a constant source of inspiration and I am not the only one who thinks so, recently she came in as the 2nd most popular blog in Indonesia! Unapologetically Dina mixes colors and styles in new imaginative ways on a daily basis. I have a feeling her closet is the size of a small warehouse with the amount of pieces she has from her own purchases, out of her moms closet and items she receives as promotions on her blog. Read her short but sweet answers below.

1. What would you name your personal style?
Playful!

2. Is there anything you wouldn’t wear?
errr…nope…;p

3. Where do you get your outfit inspirations?
Randomness! I look at my closet and just search for clothes I haven’t been wearing for quite some time.

4. What’s your favorite non fashion hobby?
Singing! Though I suck at it…hahah..:D

5. How much time do you spend working on your blog?
Usually about an hour a day.

6. What songs/albums are you loving right now?
Mew and Owl City…unique sounds and beats that make me cheery.

7. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A gymnast…seriously!

Diana thank you so much for participating!!

Symmetry Seven ~ Keiko Lynn

Category: Symmetry SevenEyeliah @ 3:00 pm

It seems like only yesterday I was writing a Blog to Watch post for this new blog called Keiko Lynn, flash forward one year and she has one of the most popular sites in the fashion blogging community. As I stated then it is still true today that her posts are honest and heartfelt. Keiko really lets you into her life showing the behind the scenes, her family, insecurities like we all have and poor kitty who had health problems. Her blog is also filled with amazing giveaways and updates to her Postlapsaria store. Her style is a mix of bright colors, lots of tights, heels and mega girly appeal consisting of many skirts and dresses usually vintage or self made. Enjoy Keiko Lynn’s answers to The Symmetry Seven below.

1. What would you name your personal style?
Always feminine, sometimes quirky.

2. Is there anything you wouldn’t wear?
Fur really grosses me out – I can’t even touch it. I also don’t wear flip flops, which is blasphemy in Florida (where I was born and raised).

3. Where do you get your outfit inspirations?
My inspiration isn’t really direct; it’s more of an overall attitude toward my wardrobe. Iris Apfel is a huge inspiration. I don’t dress like her but I’ve been highly influenced by her attitude toward fashion, which is to wear what you like and what makes you feel good. I don’t take fashion very seriously; I just know that I love it.

4. What’s your favorite non fashion hobby?
Swimming on horseback (seen here) and playing scrabble. Seriously! But not at the same time. That would be weird.

5. How much time do you spend working on your blog?
Not enough! I have to work full time on my clothing line, Postlapsaria, so my blogging is done in my free moments. I often have to create a free moment in order to keep it going.

6. What songs/albums are you loving right now?
I’m the kind of girl who grows attached to albums and doesn’t let go until I’ve absolutely killed it. I’m still in love with M83, Band of Horses, Andrew Bird, Camera Obscura, The Bird and The Bee, Broken Social Scene, so on and so forth. I think the main album that will never die for me is The Velvet Teen’s Out of the Fierce Parade.

7. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
According to my pre-school graduation’s article in the newspaper, I wanted to be a model. I don’t ever remember wanting to be a model – I think I just said it because I didn’t know how “I want to be Paula Abdul” would be received by the reporter. I really wanted to be Paula Abdul or Madonna but it didn’t work out.

Keiko Lynn thank you so much for participating!!

Symmetry Seven ~ Siri of Ringo Have a Banana

Category: Symmetry SevenEyeliah @ 7:00 pm

Siri of Ringo, Have a Banana! dresses like she stepped out of Lula magazine in soft colors and vintage pieces with just a dash of rock and roll edge.  There is always an element of simplicity as if every piece was picked on purpose with no unneeded accessories throw in.  In addition to outfit posts Siri shares pretty pictures, her love of Chloë (Sevigny that is), catchy music videos and her weakness for shoes, shoes, shoes! Below are Siri’s answers to The Symmetry Seven.

1. What would you name your personal style?

Virginia Plain.

2. Is there anything you wouldn’t wear?

There are very few things that I truly wouldn’t wear, but I am strongly adverse to anything modern that’s labeled as “retro”–I’d rather spend the time and effort finding the original vintage piece, thanks! Also, those Japanese Tabi boots just really gross me out.

3. Where do you get your outfit inspirations?

Possibly my favorite thing about creating outfits is the play between colors, and I find myself very inspired by photography and art in that regard, especially by the works of William Eggleston, Kelly Wise and Egon Schiele. Movies can have the same effect, and my favorite inspirational films include For a Few Dollars More, The Conformist, Last Tango in Paris, The Passenger and Chinese Roulette. As far as actual people go, some of my favorite contemporary dressers are Chloë Sevigny, Michelle Williams, Valentine Fillol-Cordier, and the girls from Anywho.cover.dk.

4. What’s your favorite non fashion hobby?

Outside of sleeping and eating, it’s a tie between analog photography and Super 8 filmmaking. I can be pretty stubborn when it comes to clinging to the past, although I’m not afraid to embrace technology when it comes in handy. I still wont use Google Reader though.

5. How much time do you spend working on your blog?

It totally depends, on everything from the weather to schoolwork to whether or not my boyfriend is in town to keep me busy. But I definitely wish it could me more, or at least a more consistent amount. I’d like to update multiple times a day if possible, and include more photos of my own daily life, but I need a better camera–and more natural light!

6. What songs/albums are you loving right now?

Anyone who reads my blog is probably pretty sick of hearing about how much I love GIRLS…so I wont mention them (oops!) My favorite song of all time is probably “If There is Something” by Roxy Music. Two songs I could never get sick of are “Jennifer” by Faust and “Come Go With Me” by Del Vikings. Otherwise, I’ve been listening to a lot of Everly Brothers, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Neil Young, Suicide and The Stooges.

7. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted desperately to be a famous, well-loved movie actress. By the time I got to the end of high school, I finally realized that what I called acting was much more akin to yelling things and making goofy faces. Meryl Streep, I am not.

Some older stand out looks

The middle outfit is from the traveling shirt project.

Siri thank you so much for participating!!
